{re}Try This: Striped Tote Bag

Striped Tote Redux

I needed a big, bold, and roomy tote bag for Alt, so I took on my own striped tote bag tutorial.  This time, I nixed the colors and stuck with black, white, and gold to ensure it would go with all my outfits.  I upped the measurements to fit all my conference-going needs, added a few extra gold rivets for bling, and replaced the side grommets with big, gold snaps.  Oh, and I added a little gilded heart charm.  This bad boy did not fail me.

Read on for some more pics of my recreation.

  4. I am so excited that I just ordered some rivet and grommet kits from Jo-Ann fabrics online, all on sale! Also canvas. I ordered some faux leather for straps but I'm not sure if it will be strong enough -? And I was wondering if you'd be willing to share where you got the metallic gold hearts! I love that! I am a new fan/follower and I can't wait to try this new method of straps!! THANKS for your wonderful inspiration.

    1. Sure thing! They're actually a DIY. You can buy plain wooden hearts at JoAnn or Michael's. Then, I just drilled a hole in the corner for the leather lace and gilded it with gilding sheets (although painting it gold would be easier).

Good luck, and thank you for the kind words!

  5. You mentioned that this bag is bigger than the original tutorial. What are the measurements for this wonderful bag?

    1. Thanks for your question, Ellie. The bag is about 20" wide, 12" tall, and 6" deep. I hope this helps, and apologies for the delay in my response!

  6. I simply love this bag!! My only question is, how I could install a zipper? Having to bring my laptop with me everywhere I go (almost), I would love to be able to close it, if it should rain. Thanks! :-)

    1. Thanks, Anna Dorthea. I'm sure if you looked around for how to install zippers, you could easily apply it to this design. I myself is am no zipper maven, unfortunately.
