Fabric Paper Glue: v. 2012.7

Fabric Paper Glue v. 2012.7: TABLE RUNNERS

Fabric: A simple burlap table runner glammed up with some metal trays, amber glass, and candlelight.

Paper:  A confetti table runner?  Don't mind if I do.  While playful, it still looks really sophisticated with some beautiful blooms and eclectic placesetting.
(The Party Dress via Full House)

Frou Frou:  I love myself a doily runner.  Something about combining a bunch of different styles of doily takes it from your grandmother's doily tablecloth overlay to a much more eclectic, modern, and feminine place.  I love this one paired with milk glass and a variety of white flowers.

Try This: Customized Teacup Succulent Centerpiece w Table Number

Graphic

I'm gearing up for my good friend Rebecca's wedding next weekend, so I'm here with a little wedding project.  This little teacup succulent with matching table number could be a cute centerpiece for a wedding, and the good thing about this project is that its an easy way to integrate whatever colors you want.  And it's probably more efficient to make these in multiples rather than just one at a time.

Customized Teacup Succulent

Materials: Teacup, Miniature Succulent, Acrylic Paint, Paint Brush, Skewers, Wooden Disks, Sealer Glue, Craft Glue, Foam Brush, Printer Paper, Printer

Notes about Materials: Check your local thrift stores for super cheap, super adorable teacups.  I found this succulent at the hardware store.  You can buy a whole bag of these little wooden disks for a few bucks from the kid's craft section (with the popsicle sticks) of the craft store.

Directions:  Take a quick swipe around the edge of the teacup with your paint.  Don't overthink it.  Just do it. If you're not getting married anytime soon, you can pretty much stop right here and skip to the bottom.

For the table number, paint the skewer and disks.

Sidenote about table numbers:  Did you know assigned seating is not a big thing in the South?  It's just not something very common. I'd argue it takes some headache out of the process, but I feel conflicted too because table numbers are a really fun way to customize decorations.  We have groom's cakes instead, I guess (which I'm told is mostly a Southern thing).

Custom Color Teacup Succulent and Table Number 5
Print and cut out a couple of numbers per table using colored paper of your choice and your favorite font.

Custom Color Teacup Succulent and Table Number 6
Swipe a thin layer of sealer glue on each disk and attach each number cut-out.

Custom Color Teacup Succulent and Table Number 7
Cover with a thin layer of glue and allow to dry.

Custom Color Teacup Succulent and Table Number 8
Sandwich the skewer between the two disks using a healthy dollop of craft glue.  Allow to dry.

Custom Color Teacup Succulent and Table Number 9
Assemble the succulent in the teacup, stick the number in, and consider yourself done.

If there's no wedding in your near future, just don't make the table number and stick this little gem in your window, as I did.

Fabric Paper Glue v.2012.6: YELLOW!
We've had an incredibly mild winter (including a high of 55 today), so I really don't have much to complain about.  But I'm always ready for spring around this time every year, and nothing says spring to me like yellow!

Fabric: All the bright jeans everywhere kind of make me want to squeal, and this yellow pair does not disappoint.
($59.50, Ann Taylor Loft)

Paper:  Lord knows I love some streamers.  This little streamer runner is simple, bright, and fun.

Shoe:  Seriously, sigh.  I love these little flats.
($98, Madewell)
How 'bout you?  Ready for spring?

Try This: Faceted Bauble Shoe Clips

See this girl?  I want to be this girl so bad. She wears bright lipstick, colored tights, and fun pumps.  She dons baubles.  She probably drinks various -inis that are rimmed with sparkling sanding sugars and garnishes you've never even heard of, like candied poppy petals.  Don't worry, though, her bright lipstick somehow remains perfectly in place.  Oh, and she almost certainly hangs out with Zooey Deschanel.

Anyway, this project is an homage to this girl, because I feel like she might actually give this project a chance (putting aside the fact that this girl could afford a head-to-toe Kate Spade ensemble so is probably too busy making money in an industry that would embrace this outfit (PR maybe?) to waste time on Sculpey crafts).

Faceted Bauble Shoe Clips 1
Materials: 2 fun, contrasting colors of Oven-Bake Clay, Wire, 2 Shoe Clips

This clay is available at the craft store in tons of colors for about $3 a block.  This project only uses about half of each block.  Shoe clips are generally available in the jewelry-making section of the craft store, or you can order them from an Etsy seller.

Faceted Bauble Shoe Clips 2
Directions:  Take a bit of the clay, roll it into a ball. Flatten each side on a smooth surface until cube-like, then add in some extra "facets" by flattening out a corner here or there by pressing down on a smooth surface.  Finally, run a length of wire through to make a hole so that you can string them up and attach them to your shoe clips later.

Faceted Bauble Shoe Clips 3
I made 5 baubles for each shoe.  My biggest ones were about 3/4" in diameter and my smallest about 1/2".

Faceted Bauble Shoe Clips 4
Once you've baked them in your oven according to the directions on the packaging, let them cool, and cut a length of wire about 10" long for each clip.

Faceted Bauble Shoe Clips 5
String the baubles onto the wire.

Faceted Bauble Shoe Clips 6
Now bend the wire back around on itself to gather the baubles up into one super bauble (yes, that's a thing).  Give the wire a twist or two.

Faceted Bauble Shoe Clips 7
Attach to the shoe chip.

Put 'em on some adorable pumps or flats and commence being fabulous.
