I'm not going to lie. 2013 has been the hardest year of my life. With all of the goodbyes I've had to say and the changes I've had to endure, I'm sort of ready to bid it adieu. So this year, I'm using our holiday cards to ring in a new year of peace and happiness! And let's be honest -- a new year card gives you a few extra weeks to get your act together to actually send out cards (and we could all use that, no?). These were a simple print-at-home job (read: super affordable!), and I'm sharing my template as a free printable. Read on for the full step-by-step.

Materials: 5" x 6.5" (or 5" x 7") plain craft notecards and envelopes, free "Happy 2014" printable, photo paper, home printer, craft knife, ruler, cutting mat

You'll need a great family photo. For ours, I set up a quick and festive New Years Eve photo booth with a couple of tinsel curtains, cocktails, the requisite celebratory accessories, and matching tux jackets (naturally), but your favorite photo(s) from the year would work great too. Import your photos into a word processing program, resize to about 2.5" x 3.75", and print as many as you need on photo paper.

Print out the free printable (or your own graphic) onto the kraft notecards. The printable is formatted for 5" x 6.5" cards, but would also work on 5" x 7" cards. Mine were bifold cards, so I just cut them in half along the seam. When printing, be sure that your page set-up is configured for the size of the cards and the scaling is set to 100%.

Once everything is printed out, trim the photos leaving a 1/4" white border all the way around. Cut four diagonal slits in the kraft cards to hold the photos (similar to this tutorial). Slip the photos in, load up the envelopes, drop 'em in the mail, and call it a day!

  3. Great picture, awesome idea. I'm excited to bid this year farewell too. I am always so positive of the year ahead so why not try and do this as to commemorate how much better
2014 will be than the current year's
devastations?!?!?! Lol Nice job. Thanks :-)
