Tipsy Tuesday: Fresh Tomato Red Snapper

Red Snapper
As every friend I have in DC was well aware of, my husband Michael had a DC "bucket list" -- a list of places and events that he wanted to check out before we moved away. By far, the most indulgent of all of them (and my personal favorite) was an evening at the Columbia Room, which is basically a limited-seating cocktail 'experience' (for lack of a better term), and hands down, my favorite cocktail that evening was their own take on a Red Snapper. Usually, a Red Snapper is just a Bloody Mary with gin instead of vodka. It's no secret that I love, love, love a Bloody Mary, and I love my Bloody Marys thick and spicy. But this Red Snapper was made with fresh tomato juice that had been strained of any pulp and was accented with only a smidge of worcestershire and pepper. It was light and refreshing and unlike any tomato-based cocktail I'd ever had before.

Today I'm bringing you my recreation of this amazing cocktail. I know I've waited a little past tomato season to post this, but if you can still get your hands on them, you should use the brightest red, ripe tomatoes you can find since the tomato juice is really the star of this show.  Read on for the recipe.

Tipsy Tuesday: Unusual Negroni

Unusual Negroni
It has been quite some time since I posted a cocktail recipe, but I'm back in action today with one of my husband's favorite cocktails of late -- the Unusual Negroni. It's a derivative of the Negroni (hence the name), which is a mix of gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. The thing is...we sort of hate the overwhelming bitterness of Campari. This is a much smoother, more mild version. And bonus: I'm showing off my pretty new gold cocktail tools from RedEnvelope (you know how I love gold barware). Read on for the full recipe.

Tipsy Tuesday: Lovers' Pomegranate & Champagne

Tipsy Tuesday

Okay, I swear this is my absolute last heart-centric post for at least....let's say 2 months.  I'm sorry, but Valentine's Day -- whether you're celebrating it with a friend or a lover -- calls for champagne.  So I broke out the old (which equals 'good' in champagne speak) stuff for this one.*  Heart-shaped pomegranate ice not only adds a little amore but, as it melts, it releases just a hint of sweet.

Tipsy Tuesday: Sparkling Pear Party Punch

Tipsy Tuesday Cocktail Recipes

If you haven't caught on yet, Michael and I are suckers for delicious cocktails.  Never will you attend a party at our place and be offered a vodka and soda or some such nonsense (unless, of course, we found some obscure soda that is the.best.soda.ever and you'll never drink another Schwepp's again...because, yeah, we're those people*).  In the few parties we've hosted, however, we've learned that it's good to have something mixed up in bulk in advance.  When people walk in your door, they're most interested in grabbing the easiest, most readily available beverage possible (or maybe my friends are just lushes).  This is the perfect holiday entertaining punch to have on hand.

Guest Post // Tipsy Tuesday: Apple Pumpkin Cream by House of Earnest

While I am off having adventures in Japan, I have asked some of my friends to help me out by bringing you some fun projects and cocktails.  Today's Tipsy Tuesday cocktail is from Erin of House of Earnest.

House of Earnest

Erin describes her style as "simple, natural, rustic and slightly modern," and her lovely, lovely site is a testament to that.  On House of Earnest, she shares her take on beautiful interiors, tips for party planning and styling, and some of the classiest DIYs around.  Some of my personal favorites are this amazing DIY table runner (inspired by a bathroom wall, no less), these gorgeous powder room finds, and the beautiful styling in posts like this one.

Enjoy!  --Mandy P.

Tipsy Tuesday Cocktail Recipes by Fabric Paper Glue

Hi! I'm Erin from House of Earnest - here to share with you a spunky little fall drink today. Firstly, thank you so much to Mandy for having me post a little Tipsy Tuesday recipe while she is traveling in Japan.

I am a firm supporter of anything pumpkin-flavored and when I happened upon some pumpkin pie liqueur at the grocery store last weekend, I knew I had to do something with it! My brain went immediately to an alcoholic pumpkin spice latte (which would be awesome), but I wanted to show you guys another option for the creamy treat. I think ginger ale can go with just about any tipsy treat, but the addition of a tart apple cider makes a big difference in this drink.

Tipsy Tuesday [Classics]: The Pimm's Cup

It's almost time to say goodbye to summer.  I think I really realized this fact last Saturday when Michael and I went to see My Morning Jacket at Merriweather Post Pavilion.  Nearly every year, we find ourselves going to a show out there in late summer, and the cool night air reminds you that summer is almost over.  In honor of these last few days of summer, here's our take on one of our favorite summer cocktails:

Tipsy Tuesday: Ginger-Bourbon Rickey

On this fine Tipsy Tuesday, let's talk about the Rickey.  It's a DC-born and -bred drink that's not much more than liquor, lime, and soda water.  In fact, DC's pride for the Rickey runs so deep that it has been proclaimed the official cocktail of DC, and July has been declared Rickey Month.  So, in honor of the close of Rickey Month 2012 here in the Nation's capital, we bring to you a little Rickey concoction of our own.

UntitledUntitledUntitled

Ginger-Bourbon Rickey

INGREDIENTS
2 oz Bourbon
1 oz Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur
1/2 Lime
2 dashes Angostura Bitters (optional)
Soda Water

DIRECTIONS
In a highball glass full of ice, squeeze the lime juice of half a lime and throw in the lime half.  Add the bourbon, liqueur, and bitters, and stir.  Top off with soda water. Enjoy.
