Out There / In Here

My presence was a little sparse around here this week, and in fact, any sort of crafting whatsoever in my life has come to a complete halt. I shared a bit of foreshadowing on Instagram earlier this week, but I have boatloads of life changes in process right now. Saying that I'm normally fairly tightly wound might be considered an understatement, which means that all the as-yet-unnamed things that I have going has put me into a bit of a tailspin of anxiety. Circumstances dictate that blogging must fall by the wayside for the moment. Hopefully I'll be back into the swing of things soon, so hang in there with me, won't you? Out There / In Here

I'm in Nashville for the weekend. We're primarily here to celebrate Michael's 30th birthday by seeing Bob Dylan, Wilco, and My Morning Jacket on Sunday. But I'm sad to say that the purpose of our trip became two-fold when one of my college roommates' father passed away earlier this week. While both his passing and my mom's earlier this year -- both from cancer -- were decidedly untimely, gosh, it's such a remind of how real things seem to get the older we get. Having said that, I'm happy I can be here -- if only in the crowd -- during such a difficult time for her. Even though I wasn't able to talk to everyone at my mom's funeral, I will never forget how touching it was to have the support of friends that, in some cases, I hadn't seen in ages. It really was priceless. Now, enjoy these decidedly more cheerful links, won't you?

Last weekend's trip to Atlantic City was...intense but as I expected, pretty much the time of my life. With that behind me and basically two weekends of celebrating my husband's 30th birthday ahead of me, I'm looking forward to a decidedly more relaxing weekend this weekend. For no good reason at all, I've had an itch to go to Atlantic City for several years now for ridiculousness of the beach-going, gambling, eating, drinking, dancing variety. Another week in the bag. This felt like a super short one with the holiday on Monday and a sick day for me on Tuesday. I'm in a bit of a pattern here. I'm headed out of town again for this long weekend. This time, I'm headed to Cincinnati for a weekend jammed full of wedding festivities for my great friend Sheena. It's admittedly been a pretty damn good week for my crafty persona. This has been one of those weeks where I've been crazy busy -- getting up early, working straight through, staying up late. And it feels great. For one, it seemed like everyday for a couple of months there I would utter at least once, "I've never been this tired in my whole life." Incessantly having no energy can get a girl down...and behind. So feeling energetic enough to put in these long days makes me feel like things are on the up. What's more, I've been spending these early mornings and late nights redesigning the site and working on a few things that give me the feeling that maybe, just maybe I'm on the verge of something really great. It's a good feeling, and the great news is that the redesign is ahead of schedule (and mostly done, if you look around). But I expect the full effect to be complete by Monday. Yay!

Out There / In Here

This has certainly been one of those weeks that can shake a person.  It goes without saying that the events in Boston are rattling.  For me, the heightened security at work, on the Metro, and even at the food trucks that gather around the Federal buildings in the wake of these events are a stark reminder of where I live and the world we live in.

On top of that, Mother's Day gift round-ups started popping up all over the place this week, and with the recent loss of my mom, they make me oh-so sad.  I'm thankful that some good friends are getting married on May 12th so that it will be a day of joy for me and not sadness.

You know, I think the lifestyle/fashion/crafting blogosphere gets a bad wrap for presenting life through a rose-colored lens.  I don't know about you, but during weeks like this one, I'm more than happy to lose myself in the bright colors, perfectly staged objects, and glorious sunshine that this world so kindly offers us.  Here are just a few examples:

The weather took a breakneck 180 degree turn towards summer this week, and you know what? I'm not complainin'.  I love it.  This weekend will be more Spring-like though -- perfect weather for entertaining my in-laws.  There's lots on the agenda, too!  A river cruise to see the cherry blossoms, lots of great dinner reservations, and maybe a trip to Union Market.  What are you getting into this weekend?
